Accounts from people who have sat with us in the studio
These are not polished testimonials written by a marketing team. They are summaries of what participants told us after completing their programme — in their own words, as close as we could keep them.

"I had tried budgeting apps, spreadsheets, all of it. The ledger approach stuck because it asks you to actually sit with the numbers once a month and write them down by hand. Three months after the workshop I have not missed a month."
Personal Ledger Workshop · March 2025
Lim Hui Mei
Secondary school teacher · Cheras
"I was eight years from the retirement age and had almost no clear picture of what EPF withdrawal actually meant in practice. Session three, on post-retirement expenses, changed how I had been thinking about it. I left with questions I could actually take to the right people."

"My husband and I did the Household Review engagement last year. What we valued most was that at no point did anyone tell us what to do. We were helped to see what we had. The folio we received at the end is the most useful document we own about our own finances."

"I was a bit self-conscious going in because I felt my finances were in a worse state than others in the room. But the workshop is genuinely unpretentious — you fill in a ledger that reflects what you have, not what you wish you had. The format makes that feel natural."
Personal Ledger Workshop · January 2025
Rosnah binti Norizan

"The Pre-Retirement programme answered something I had been vague about for years — how EPF account sequencing actually works. The facilitator explained it clearly and left space for questions. I did not feel I was being managed toward any conclusion."

"We did the household engagement as a couple. The pace — one session per month over four months — gave us time between meetings to think and sometimes disagree quietly at home before the next session. That breathing room was part of what made it useful."

Three programme journeys in brief

Case Study · Ledger Workshop
The professional who tracked everything except what mattered
Situation
A mid-career professional in his late thirties had used three different budgeting apps over five years, but found himself as uncertain about his position as ever. The apps recorded everything but never produced a feeling of understanding.
Programme
Attended the Personal Ledger Workshop. The handwritten format — which he was initially sceptical of — turned out to be the element that made the difference. Writing the summary by hand once a month required him to be present with the numbers in a way a spreadsheet had not.
Outcome
Eighteen months after the workshop he was keeping the ledger consistently and described it as the single most useful financial habit he had managed to maintain.
Case Study · Pre-Retirement Programme
The teacher who had been told different things by different advisers
Situation
A secondary school teacher in her early fifties had spoken with three financial advisers over seven years and received three substantially different pictures of what she should do with her EPF savings. She was not sure who to trust and was making no decisions as a result.
Programme
Enrolled in the Pre-Retirement Reading Programme. The five sessions gave her a framework for understanding what each adviser had been recommending and why their advice differed — primarily because of different assumptions about her risk preferences and post-retirement spending patterns.
Outcome
Left the programme with clarity on the questions she needed answered, and the confidence to go back to one of the advisers with a specific, informed brief.
Case Study · Household Review
The couple who had never looked at their combined position
Situation
A couple in their late forties — both working, both with separate savings and insurance arrangements — had never sat down together with a complete picture of their combined household financial position. Each managed their own accounts and roughly split household costs.
Programme
Completed the four-month Private Household Review Engagement. The initial listening meeting revealed significant overlaps in insurance coverage and a gap in their combined understanding of what their medium-term obligations actually amounted to.
Outcome
Left with the printed folio, a shared language for their household finances, and clarity on two insurance decisions they had been deferring. No products were purchased through Sable & Co.
