— Our Story

Founded on the conviction that clarity is more useful than urgency

Sable & Co began in Kuala Lumpur with a straightforward premise: that most adults who feel uncertain about their finances are not missing products — they are missing a quiet moment to read what is already in front of them.

About the Practice

What Sable & Co is, and what it is not

Sable & Co is a financial education practice. We work with working adults and households in Kuala Lumpur who want to understand their own financial situation more clearly — not to be sold a product, not to be rushed into a decision, but to sit with the picture they already have and read it properly.

The practice was founded after years of observing that the financial services industry in Malaysia, as in most markets, tends to lead with products and timelines. Customers are frequently moved quickly toward a purchase without first being given space to understand what they currently hold, how it fits together, or what they actually want from the next ten years of their financial life.

We do not sell products. We do not earn commissions on what participants choose to do after they leave our programmes. Our income comes entirely from programme fees, which means our interest is straightforward: to run sessions that are genuinely useful, so that people return and refer others.

Our Mission

To give working adults in Malaysia the time and the framework to read their own financial picture — without pressure, without product recommendations, and without the assumption that a faster decision is a better one.

The name Sable & Co comes from the bookbinding tradition, where sable — a fine dark cloth — was used to cover ledgers and account books meant to last. We chose it because it reflects the kind of work we do: careful, durable, and made to be read more than once.

Our studio is on the fourteenth floor of Wisma Alor Pine on Jalan Sultan Ismail, in central Kuala Lumpur. Sessions are held there, in a room designed to feel like a reading room — quiet, without excessive visual distraction, with space for a small group to work through material at a considered pace.

The Team

Who leads the sessions

Each programme is led by practitioners with backgrounds in financial planning, adult education, and corporate communications. No facilitator at Sable & Co holds a product licence.

Siti leads the Private Household Review Engagements. With a background in corporate financial analysis and personal estate documentation, she brings both the technical reading and the patience a household review requires.

Our Standards

How we maintain the integrity of our work

These are not policies imposed on us from outside. They are decisions we made when forming the practice, because we believe they are what make the work worth doing.

No Product Licensing

None of our facilitators hold a financial product licence in Malaysia. This is deliberate — it removes the structural incentive to steer participants toward purchases.

Confidentiality of Household Information

Financial information discussed in the Private Household Review Engagement is never retained after the engagement closes, and is never shared with any third party.

Curriculum Review Cycle

Programme content is reviewed before each new session cycle to reflect current EPF rules, PRS fund structures, Bank Negara guidelines, and any legislative changes relevant to participants.

Capped Group Sizes

Workshops are capped to ensure every participant can ask questions without hesitation and the facilitator can adjust pace to the group rather than a fixed schedule.

PDPA Compliance

Sable & Co handles all participant data in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Registration information is used only for programme administration.

Post-Programme Feedback

Every participant receives a written feedback form after their programme. Responses are read carefully and shape the content and structure of future sessions.

Our Approach to Financial Education

A reading relationship, not a sales encounter

Financial education in Malaysia has largely been delivered as a precursor to product sales — a short explanation followed by a recommendation, and then a signature. Sable & Co works from a different premise. We are an educational practice in the traditional sense: the value we offer is understanding, and we measure our effectiveness by whether participants leave better able to read their own position, not by whether they purchased something.

Our three current programmes address three distinct points in a person's financial life. The Personal Ledger Workshop is appropriate for any adult who wants to develop a simple, handwritten habit of reviewing their monthly financial position. The Pre-Retirement Reading Programme is designed for working adults within the last decade of their planned career who need a considered overview of what the transition involves — EPF withdrawal options, PRS structures, the way post-retirement expenses typically differ from working-life ones, and the insurance considerations that tend to become urgent around that time.

The Private Household Review Engagement takes the longest and costs the most, because it is the most personal. It is designed for a household that wants to sit with a clear picture of where they stand — across cash flow, savings, investments, insurance coverage, and medium-term goals — and to do so at their own pace, with someone who is reading alongside them rather than directing them toward a conclusion.

The studio is in central Kuala Lumpur, and we work principally with professionals living and working in the Klang Valley. All programme content addresses the Malaysian financial context specifically — the instruments available here, the rules that apply here, and the cultural realities that affect how Malaysian households actually make financial decisions.
